Sign up for Life and Change Someone Else's

This week, people around the world celebrated "Pay it Forward Day". Earlier this week we organized an event that celebrates the ultimate way of 'paying it forward'- becoming an organ donor through Sign Up For Life. This week also happens to be National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week.

Remember that old blue card you used to sign along with your drivers license?... That's a way of the past! Now, Transplant Manitoba is encouraging you to sign up to become an organ donor online.

Nearly one hundred supporters (and CBC!) gathered at Fox and Fiddle to watch the launch of Transplant Manitoba's promotional video to encourage Manitobans to sign up for life! The evening was a great success and we all had a fantastic time mingling, enjoying wine and some amazing food.

You've Done it Again, Dove

Remember Dove's Evolution of Beauty viral video? The time lapsed model that gets a makeover, photoshopped and slapped up on a billboard in a few minutes? Of course you do. The video was one of the first viral videos used by a brand to garner millions upon millions of views to not only relay a message, but touch people on an emotional level. The video really struck a chord.

Once again Dove has released another viral video touching on how we view ourselves. Worth a watch. Dove does it right, once again.

Trak Attack

Meet our intern, Mike Trakalo. Not only does Mike have a great moustache, he's a great intern too.

Mike has a degree in Rhetoric and Communications and is graduating from Red River College's Creative Communications (CreComm) program in the next few weeks. CreComm prepares students for careers in advertising, public relations, media production and journalism. Social media is also a large focus in the program, which makes Mike a perfect fit for us.

You're Not Winning, Unless You're Pinning!

We live in a highly visual world. We like to look at eye catching, beautiful things. Whether it’s art, pages in a magazine, or photographs. It’s human nature for us to gravitate to something visually interesting. It doesn’t matter if we’re browsing online, or if we’re physically touching or viewing something, this rule applies.

A study by ROI Research found that when users engage with their friends on social media sites, it’s the pictures that  catch their attention most. It also found that 44% of users are more likely to interact with brands and companies that post photos over any other form of media.

YouTube? Me Too!

How do I make fried rice? How do I tie a windsor knot?  How do I wrap a cat for Christmas?

These questions are just a mere dent in the pop can of life we face everyday. Human beings are wired with an inborn love of learning. We’re curious people by nature, but the fact of the matter is – we don’t know how to do a lot of things.

Before the Internet, many of us found ourselves pacing up and down the dingy isles of our school library searching for the coveted lettered encyclopaedia that would with any luck, hopefully have the answer we were looking for.

Don't Fake It Till You Make It

In High School the most popular kids were considered to be the ones with the most friends.  The introvert dungeons and dragon lover didn't even stand a chance.  The digital revolution has presented a whole new popularity contest to be won, online.  Social Media networks like Facebook conveniently show exactly how many "friends" someone has,  or in a businesses case, "fans."  But don't worry just yet, similar to most things in life, you can "fake it till you make it."

"I want YOU, to follow ME"
Facebook has stated that it believes, "there are now more than 83 million illegitimate accounts on the social network." This encompasses duplicate, pet (yes, my cat has one), and fake accounts used for spamming etc. From the seedy depths of the Social Media underbelly has emerged a new type of company that offers users Facebook and Twitter  followers all for mere dollars per thousand.  Celebrities, businesses and public figures have been outed for using such services to gain insta-popularity.  Mitt Romney is one of the recently accused whose Twitter account suspiciously grew overnight.  Information arose that claimed 1 in 4 of every new Romney followers had never even sent a Tweet.

This brings us back to one of the most important lessons we preach to our clients.  It's not about how many people "like" you,  it's about how many people "care" about you.  What's the point of having hundreds or thousands of un-engaged followers?  It's better to have 100 followers that interact, like, and care about your business than 1,000 that don't.

For more reading material on either of these subjects check out these great articles:
