Big Changes to Facebook Brand Pages

Three things in life are certain; death, taxes and Facebook changes.  Facebook will automatically convert all Facebook pages to the new Facebook Timeline design on March 30, 2012

We've summarized the major changes and how they will affect your company Facebook page.

New Design:  New branding and creative opportunities are available.  Large profile pictures will become unusable. The "Milestones" feature allows you to highlight important company events such as product launches, hirings, store openings etc.

Tabs Less Visible:  Only Four tab options are visible at any given time (including the mandatory photo tab).  Tabs need to be chosen wisely and can be used to leverage certain sales & marketing initiatives within the company.

No Default Landing Page: Unfortunately Timeline takes away the ability to set a default landing page.  This means the Welcome Page function will be obsolete.  Default landing pages can still be utilized through Facebook advertising campaigns

Pin Your Top Posts:  You can "Pin" specific posts to the top of your newsfeed for approx. 7 days, or until something new has been pinned.  This allows brands to keep important information at the top of their newsfeed for extended amounts of time.

Brands can Private Message Users:  Brands can keep their timeline clean and free of endless customer service enquires by responding to users via a private message.

What Does This Mean Overall?:  Mashable says it best:
"The way content is shared and viewed within a Timeline Page is incredibly important.  Brands that constantly create engaging updates and share important milestones will stay at the forefront of user's attention. Create and rotate new apps for engagement, pin relevant and timely content, and update the feed with user-friendly dialogues to stay relevant in this new space.
