It's been an icon for Blue Bomber football fans for over a
decade, and tomorrow it's up for grabs outside the Bomber Store as part of a 6pm
live auction.
Hanging out with Hustler at the TSN1290 Radio studio |
With many Bomber fans amongst our own staff including a “Section S”
season ticket holder, this video served a therapeutic purpose for us as a
method of saying goodbye to a beloved football meeting place, and in a bigger
way, Canad Inns Stadium itself.
We spent the better part of two days meeting with some
familiar Winnipeg personalities to talk about their own Rum Hut memories including:
Hustler – Host of TSN1290 Radio’s
Hustler & Lawless
Ron Cantiveros – Publisher of TheFilipino Journal
Chef Rob – Chef at the ModernTaco Company
Jim Toth – Host of the CJOBSports Show
Carter Chen – The Unofficial Mayor of The Rum Hut
Doug Brown – Former Winnipeg BlueBomber

The Rum Hut Auction Video
Many of our preconceived notions on Rum Hut lore were
confirmed by the conversations we had with our local celebrities. It turns out
it doesn’t go unnoticed by the players how Bomber fans are slow to get back to
their seats in the 3rd quarter because the Rum Hut area has turned into a
half-time social. The 5,000 empty seats don’t mean people have left; they’re
just huddled in the Northeast corner of the field enjoying refreshments and
high-fiving friends.
We thank the Bombers and PMA for the opportunity to get involved with their video and we look forward to new memories at a new stadium, hopefully with a new Rum Hut too!!!
