Vine: Sharing Life in Motion

Vine launched back in January and we kept a close eye on its success and progress, albeit a little hesitant to fully accept it. Many new social media applications or websites lack a particular and much needed stickability and we witnessed these not-quite-there innovations come and go, never reaching the level of success that Facebook or Twitter has accomplished.

Now that Vine is two months old, the potential and practical application of the app is unmistakable. Vine is everything an app should be: addictive, easy to use and entertaining.

The Vine user can create short (6 second)  videos that loop repeatedly. Vine functions similarily to Twitter in that your videos appear in a news feed for followers to view. As Vine themselves put it, "Vine is the best way to see and share life in motion".

As of March 29, Vine videos can now be shared or embedded anywhere online - including Facebook and Twitter. The update was essential for the app to receive widespread success, as videos can be posted online to view for those who do not have the app. Unique viewers dedicated to Vine are surfacing all over the web. You can view Vine by the map, by random or even by your favourite animal.

For personal use, Vine is a fun way to make up short skits, create stop motion videos or capture entertaining moments during your day.

For companies, Vine is proving to be a valuable tool for marketing, promotions, branding and product showcasing. Clothing stores like Urban Outfitters and Asos are using the app to advertise clothing and featured products in a way that photos cannot. The potential of Vine was further showcased when The Wolverine director James Mangold posted a 6 second teaser on Vine for the upcoming movie trailer. With Vine, restaurants can capture the sizzle of their best dishes and car dealerships can show off the features of their vehicles. Vine's practical usage spans across a variety of sectors and industries.
