The Truth About Blogs

Not a Blog
What is a Blog?  I know it sounds like something you'd find stuck to your shoe,  but it actually refers to a type of online journal.  The word "Blog" originates from the word "Weblog" which are a type of website maintained by someone that produces regular entries of commentary, graphics, video etc.

There are millions of Bloggers around the world, writing about everything from music, food, first dates, and anything else you can imagine.  Many companies have started Blogging for their business.  Why would they do this you ask? Why do WE do this?

Tell Your Story:  Business is all about relationships.  People don't do business with businesses, they do business with people.  Telling your company's story will engage your readers and help them connect with the "people" at your company.  A blog allows the opportunity to share information from many different perspectives.  A company is made up of many types of people and jobs, encourage all departments and positions to write a blog pertaining to the things that they are doing at the company.  Internally and externally this is a great way to keep everyone informed.

Be Found: It's no secret that search engines love Blogs because they are updated frequently and usually contain links, graphics and videos.  Blogs allow you to associate your company with the specific terms you want to be linked with through organic searches.

Street Cred: As a business owner you have extensive knowledge and information about your industry and your business.  Sharing this information with others positions you as an expert, and as a trusted source of information.  Trust = Relationships,  Relationships = Sales

Customer Service: A relationship is two-sided.  If you are not listening to your customers' wants/needs you are missing out on an opportunity to improve your business.  A blog allows customers to comment and give you insight into what they value and solutions they are looking for.
